Land of Goshen: an orphanage is situated at 171 Belmont Road, Redhill, Durban, 4051, South Africa. Founded eight years ago, as part of the pastoral activities of the Jesus Assembly Ministries to provide residential care for ten children and young people, today it caters for a total of five children as part of the building has had to be abandoned as it is no longer sound and unfit for human habitation. The establishment is run by Ms Noelene Chetty a volunteer and a team of three residential staff who receive a substance allowance.

Land of Goshen operates a caring agenda that is based around the provision of residential care in an environment that enables residents to acquire a sense of belonging and to be part of an extended family, and the opportunity to be educated with a view to making a positive contribution to society.

Residents of the Land of Goshen share a common experience of having lost their parents to disease. Two residents are HIV positive. The project is seeking funding to undertake renovation work to the building, contribution to the cost of educating the existing group of children and the cost associated with providing care for an additional five children: consequent upon the refurbishment of the building. Land of Goshen is registered with the state’s Department of Welfare to deliver childcare services but receives no financial or other support from the State. Identified below is the budget associated with providing education for individual children and the projected cost of refurbishing the home.

Mary’s Biopic Age 13. Orphaned age 8 (Aids related). Jordan Christian School Grade 7. School fees - R500-00 per annum. Uniform, clothing, toiletries- R3000-00. School Stationery- R 500-00.

James Age 14. Former street child suffered physical abuse. Treated for extensive burns to back. No knowledge of parents. School Fees- R 500-00 per annum. Uniform, stationery, toiletries, - R2000-00.
